Hi folks, I'm very new to vb, trying to teach myself at home with books.
I'm using visual basic.net 2003. Is this the right group to be asking
newbie questions? The nature of this newsgroup leads me to assume that all
or hopefully most of you are intelligent and serious about your/our shared
interest. I've read posts in other groups of various interests and have been
amazed at the replies some people get. Such a shame. Basically, is this a
friendly group?

You're right! Many groups are spoiled by senseless and foul-mouthed replies
and bickering. This group is relatively free of that and the posters are
competent and take an interest in providing thoughtful solutions (take a bow
all!).

But unfortunatelly, as you'll probably soon be told in detail, the group is for
mainly VB6 and not vb.next.

Good luck. I may try it myself soon.

There are many "dotnet"-groups. Try one of those, e.g.
microsoft.public.dotnet.vb.general
